LITERAL MEANING OF MEDITATION;--
The word meditation, is derived from two Latin words : meditari(to think, to dwell upon, to exercise the mind) and mederi (to heal). Its Sanskrit derivation 'medha' means wisdom. .Meditation is not a technique but a way of life. Meditation means 'a cessation of the thought process' .Many years ago meditation was considered something just not meant for modern people, but now it has become very popular with all types of people. Published scientific and medical evidence has proved its benefits, but it still needs to be much understood.
WHAT IS MEDITATION?--
07 POINTS;--
1-Traditionally, the classical yoga texts, describe that to attain true states of meditation one must go through several stages. After the necessary preparation of personal and social code, physical position, breath control, and relaxation come the more advanced stages of concentration, contemplation, and then ultimately absorption.
2-But that does not mean that one must perfect any one stage before moving onto the next. The Internal yoga approach is that simultaneous application of a little of all stages together is Meditation.
3-It is a word that has come to be used loosely and inaccurately in the modern world. That is why there is so much confusion about how to practice it. Some people use the word meditate when they mean thinking or contemplating; others use it to refer to daydreaming or fantasizing. However, meditation (dhyana) is not any of these.
4-Meditation is a precise technique for resting the mind and attaining a state of consciousness that is totally different from the normal waking state. It is the means for fathoming all the levels of ourselves and finally experiencing the center of consciousness within.
5-Meditation is not a part of any religion; it is a science, which means that the process of meditation follows a particular order, has definite principles, and produces results that can be verified.
6-In meditation, the mind is clear, relaxed, and inwardly focused. When you meditate, you are fully awake and alert, but your mind is not focused on the external world or on the events taking place around you.
7-Meditation requires an inner state that is still and one-pointed so that the mind becomes silent. When the mind is silent and no longer distracts you, meditation deepens.
IS TURNING INWARD MEDITATION?--
11 FACTS;--
1-From childhood onward, we have been educated only to examine and verify things in the external world. No one has taught us how to look within, to find within, and to verify within. Therefore, we remain strangers to ourselves, while trying to get to know others.
2-This lack of self-understanding is one of the main reasons our relationships don’t seem to work, and why confusion and disappointment so often prevail in our life.
3-Very little of the mind is cultivated by our formal educational system. The part of the mind that dreams and sleeps—the vast realm of the unconscious which is the reservoir of all our experiences—remains unknown and undisciplined; it is not subject to any control.
4-It is true that the whole of the body is in the mind, but the whole of the mind is not in the body. Except for the practice of meditation, there is no method to truly develop control over the totality of the mind.
5-The goal of meditation is to go beyond the mind and experience our essential nature—which is described as peace, happiness, and bliss. But as anyone who has tried to meditate knows, the mind itself is the biggest obstacle standing between ourselves and this awareness.
6-The mind is undisciplined and unruly, and it resists any attempts to discipline it or to guide it on a particular path. The mind has a mind of its own. That is why many people sit for meditation and experience only fantasies, daydreams, or hallucinations. They never attain the stillness that distinguishes the genuine experience of deep meditation.
7-We are taught how to move and behave in the outer world, but we are never taught how to be still and examine what is within ourselves. When we learn to do this through meditation, we attain the highest of all joys that can ever be experienced by a human being.
8-All the other joys in the world are momentary, but the joy of meditation is immense and everlasting. This is not an exaggeration; it is a truth supported by the long line of sages, both those who renounced the world and attained truth, and those who continued living in the world yet remained unaffected by it.
9-Meditation is a practical means for calming yourself, for letting go of your biases and seeing what is, openly and clearly. It is a way of training the mind so that you are not distracted and caught up in its endless churning.
10-Meditation teaches you to systematically explore your inner dimensions. It is a system of commitment, not commandment. You are committing to yourself, to your path, and to the goal of knowing yourself. But at the same time, learning to be calm and still should not become a ceremony or religious ritual; it is a universal requirement of the human body.
11-How to Cultivate Stillness;--Learning how to be still is the method of meditation. The process of cultivating stillness begins with the body. In the yoga tradition, you are guided by a competent teacher to keep your head, neck, and trunk straight while sitting in a meditative posture (asana). When you have learned to be comfortable in this posture, you should form a regular habit of practicing in the same posture at the same time and at the same place every day.
NEED OF MEDITATION;----
04 POINTS;-
Buddha declared that two thousand five hundred years after his time, a new cycle will begin. We will not be here to see it happening, but in the next two hundred years, especially for India, and in many ways in the rest of the world also, developments will happen, especially on the spiritual plane.
1-In many ways it will start a new revolution of its own. This point of time that we are in is the most spiritually significant for the world. Right now, the world is more comfortable than it ever was. At the same time, it is more stressful and uncertain than it ever was.
2-Never before have the general mass of people been as interested in spirituality as they are today. As strife and struggle in the world has increased, interest in the inner world has also increased. In a way, if you look at it, this is a tremendous step. If this process continues, if this interest deepens in every human being on the planet, it is the solution and salvation for humanity in many ways.
3-There was a time when one Ashoka or Gautama Buddha realized that conquering the external does not get us anywhere. But today, an ordinary citizen in the world is beginning to realize this. This is simply because we have the aid of science and technology with which all of us can see that we can go to the Moon and Mars, but within ourselves, we are not getting anywhere
4-A moment like this is significant spiritually; the world is becoming more spiritual than ever before because strife, struggle and suffering has reached its peak in so many ways. Pain is just there in the body. Suffering is something that you create. But you need not create it. If you are aware, you will not create suffering for yourself. The only reason why anyone would create suffering for himself is because he is unaware.
BENEFITS OF MEDITATION;----
09 POINTS;-
1. This world is full of miseries and sufferings. If you want to get rid of the pains and afflictions of this Samsara, you must practice meditation. Meditation is the pathway to Divinity. It is the royal road to the Kingdom of Brahman. It is a mysterious ladder which reaches from earth to heaven from error to truth, from darkness to light, from pain to Bliss, from restlessness to abiding Peace, from ignorance to Knowledge, from mortality to Immortality.
1-1-Meditation leads to knowledge of the Self which brings about the eternal peace, supreme Bliss. Meditation prepares you for the integral experience or direct intuitive knowledge.
2. Truth is Brahman. Truth is Atman. Truth is quite pure and simple You cannot realise the Truth without reflection and meditation. Be silent, Know thyself. Know That. Melt the mind in That.
3. Without the help of meditation you cannot attain knowledge of the Self. Without its aid you cannot grow into the Divine state. Without it you cannot liberate yourself from the trammels (deprive of freedom )of the mind and attain Immortality.
3-1-If you do not practice meditation, the supreme splendour and faceless glories of Atman will remain hidden from you. Tear the veils that cover the soul by practicing regular meditation. Rend asunder(apart) the five sheaths that screen the Atman by constant meditation and then attain the final beatitude (supreme blessedness)of life.
4. The fire of meditation annihilates all foulness due to vice. Then suddenly comes knowledge or Divine Wisdom which directly leads to Mukti or final emancipation.
5. There are many valuable trainings of the mind which are essential to mental culture, for instance, the training of the memory, the cultivation of reflection, discrimination, Vichara or enquiry of 'Who am I?' The practice of meditation itself is a potent clarifier of memory. The practice of memory-culture powerfully helps the attainment of meditation.
6. Meditation is a powerful tonic. It is a mental and nervine tonic as well. The holy vibrations penetrate all the cells of the body and cure the diseases of the body. Those who meditate save doctor's bills. The powerful, soothing waves that arise during meditation exercise a benign influence on the mind, nerves, organs and cells of the body. The Divine energy freely flows like Taila-dhara ( A flow of oil from one vessel to another) from the feet of the Lord to the different systems of the Sadhaka (aspirant).
7. If you can meditate for half an hour, you will be able to engage yourself with peace and spiritual strength in the battle of life for one week through the force of this meditation. Such is the beneficial result of meditation. As you have to move with different minds of peculiar natures in your daily life, get the strength and peace from the meditation and you will have no trouble and worry then.
8. A Yogi who meditates regularly has a magnetic and charming personality. Those who come in contact with him are much influenced by his sweet voice, powerful speech, lustrous eyes, brilliant complexion, strong healthy body, good behaviour, virtuous qualities and Divine nature. Just as a grain of salt dropped in a basin of water dissolves and becomes distributed throughout the whole water, just as sweet fragrance of jessamine pervades the air, so also his spiritual aura becomes infiltrated to the minds of others.
9-People draw joy, peace and strength from him. They are inspired by his speech and get elevation of mind by mere contact with him.Anyone who has stepped foot in a yoga understands that the practice of yoga is a lot more than just exercises. But with so much information about yoga as a spiritual discipline and way-of-life, the whole thing can get pretty confusing.
NOTE;--These are the best, and most simple guidelines which are easy to understand and realistic to incorporate into your life.
CAN WE REACH THE STATE OF BODILESS IN MEDITATION ?--
05 POINTS;-- 1-As there is a physical body, there is a mental body and an energy body. The energy body is called pranamayakosha. In the energy body, there are 72,000 nadis or pathways through which the energy moves.
2-All the 72,000 nadis need not be active for you to exist here physically. With just a few fundamental ones, you can live a full physical life. If all the 72,000 nadis become active, you will have no sense of body. It will not exist in your experience. Can you imagine the freedom of sitting without the body? For example, if you want to sit and meditate, your legs start hurting and after sometime, all you are is just leg pain. All other human qualities evaporate. But if you activate all the 72,000 nadis, if you sit here, there is no sense of body. You can use the body whichever way you want, but the body has no power over you. 3-One example that is very popular around the world is Jesus. Nails were being driven into his hands and legs. If nails are driven into your hands and legs, what would you do? You would scream, yell and curse the whole world.
4-But it seems he said, “Forgive them for they know not what they do.” Can a man say this if he is suffering? It does not mean that there is no pain. Pain is there.
5-Probably his body was so much more sensitive than yours. Definitely there was pain, but there was no suffering. When he said, “They know not what they do,” all he was saying is that they are unaware. Knowledge+karuna+less weight of desire ;can lead us to bodiles stage. - .........SHIVOHAM..... .
