1 -TURMERIC;--

04 FACTS;- 1-In Eastern India, the plant is used as one of the nine components of navapatrika along with young plantain or banana plant, taro leaves, barley (jayanti), wood apple (bilva), pomegranate , asoka, manaka or manakochu, and rice paddy. The Navapatrika worship is an important part of Durga festival rituals. 2-Haldi ceremony literally "yellow on the body"is a ceremony observed during Hindu wedding celebrations in many parts of India including Bengal, Punjab, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. 3-Some studies have demonstrated that turmeric exhibits anti-inflammatory properties that are useful in the treatment of both osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

4-Alcohol extracts of turmeric have been found to reduce blood sugar, which could eventually affect the treatment of diabetes. In addiion, clinical trials in China have as a food seasoning can reduce serum cholesterol levels .

2-TULSI ;-

07 FACTS;--

1-The most common example of a sacred plant in Hinduism is the Tulsi. It is a form of Basil and is sometimes called the Holy Basil. It is very important in Hindu mythology as the goddess consort of Lord Vishnu. 2-There is a complete festival in which Tulsi is married to Lord Vishnu which also proclaims the start of the marriage season. Apart from being a goddess, Tulsi is also important because of its amazing medicinal properties. It can be used to cure insect bites, gout, muscular aches and pains, rheumatism, bronchitis, coughs, sinusitis, flatulence, nausea, cramps, colds, fever, flu and other infectious diseases.

3-Tulsi is always associated with purity and a highly revered and used for all religious purposes among the Hindus. It is considered very auspicious to have a Tulsi plant in the front courtyard of a house.

4-Tulsi beads can always be seen around the necks of serious yogis and mystics in India, worn to purifying the mind, emotions and body. Dispelling the unwanted influences of others, gross and subtle, is one of the many benefits bestowed by Tulsi plant and hence worshipped by all.

5-Tulsi plants are also prized in Ayurveda, where they are considered an integral part of that sophisticated healing system. In practically every temple in India, no puja can be started without few Tulsi leaves. The qualities and amazing powers of this plant are found throughout the oldest writings on Earth, the Sanskrit Vedas of ancient India, where it is stated that simply touching the wood is purifying at many levels

.6-Basil (Tulsi) is a plant which is highly revered. It must be kept in the North, East or North-east direction.It is also known as holy Basil and it is always good to grow a Tulasi plant on one's property.

7-Tulasi should be located on the North, North-East, or East sides of the house, or in front of the house. Tulasi is used extensively in Ayurvedic medicines. It purifies the blood and improves the digestive system. It is believed to be useful in treating many types of diseases. Its probably for this reason, that it is considered a sacred plant and used in daily worship.

3-JASMINE;-

1-Jasmine attracts love and money into your home, and encourages prophetic (relating to prophecy) dreams . Jasmine flowers are often worn by high priestesses. Incredibly, jasmine flowers open at night, which makes mind, cooler.

2-Jasmine has been mentioned in Hindu scriptures since the time of the Vedas. It is used in worship to decorations in weddings, kholams, doorways, statues and even on photos. Jasmines are also used in making perfumes, incense sticks, tea and other recipes.

3-Many have claimed that jasmine is one of the favourite flowers of Lord Vishnu. The sweet smell is believed to calm your nerves and will help you to relax. In general, plants with sweet smelling flowers like jasmine, red lotus, blue lotus etc are good in the house compound as they release a pleasant fragrance and can also be used in daily worship. Moreover, as these flowers are produced round the year, they are always available..

4-LEMON;--

1-As well as being bright and happy, lemons are a fantastic thing to have around the house .They symbolise purification and friendship, and it’s said that if you wear diluted lemon oil during the full moon, it will help you attune with its energies.

2-Astrology has given enormous importance to lemon as an ingredient in many remedies. It is believed that lemon has the tendency to get rid of the evil eye (casting bad effects on something). It is worth noting that in India almost all the shopkeepers have a tendency to hang a lemon pierced with a black thread with seven green chilies tied on the either sides of the lemon (four chilies on top and three below) on their main entrance.

3-This practice has a great Astrological reasoning behind it. Lemon is known to keep enemies at bay. Tying it on the main entrance gains tremendous positive energy to the immediate surrounding area and keeps the evil eye and negative energy at bay. We observe these things in our everyday life but do not try to understand the reason behind it.

4-It is believed that lemon can help people who have frequent bad dreams. Placing a fresh green lemon under the pillow before sleeping mitigates the tendency of having bad dreams. The lemon should be thrown away in the next morning. Repeating this exercise helps getting rid of bad dreams completely.

5-In Astrology, Venus governs sour taste. Donating lemon helps pacifying afflicted Venus. Those having well placed Venus would have a good taste for sour items like tamarind, pickle, sour fruit juice etc. Lemon is associated with Jupiter too. 5-ASHOKA TREE; --

-1-Ashoka is a Sanskrit word meaning without grief or that which gives no grief. The tree has many other names in local languages as well. One such name means the tree of love blossoms. The Hindus regard it as sacred, being dedicated to Kama Deva, God of Love.

2-The tree is a symbol of love. Its beautiful, delicately perfumed flowers are used in temple decoration. Lord Buddha was born under the Ashoka tree, so it is planted in Buddhist monasteries.Highly valued as well for its handsome appearance and the color and abundance of its flowers, the ashoka tree is often found in royal palace compounds and gardens as well as close to temples throughout India.

3-Coconut and Ashok trees should be placed in the courtyard of the house. It is believed that the Ashoka tree helps remove sufferings and grief and brings joy.

6-BANANA TREE;-

05 FACTS;-

1-Though banana is not a tree but it is considered a tree because of its structure and size. It is a very sacred tree and all parts of the tree are used for some purpose or the other. For example, the trunk of banana is used to erect welcoming gates. The leaves are used to make the ceremonial pavilion.

2-In some pooja, the leaves are used to serve "prashad". It is believed that offering of the leaves of banana pleases Lord Ganesha. Banana as a fruit is offered to Lord Vishnu and Laksmi.

3-Infact, the eleventh day of the bright half of Pausa (December-January) is considered to be very auspicious to offer banana to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi. In some regions, banana tree is worshipped while performing Kadali Vrata.

4-According to tradition, during Vaisakha, Magha or Kartika sukla chaturdasi, a banana tree is planted and nurtured till it bears fruit. It is said that worshipping the tree with flowers, fruit, etc. will help in the welfare of one's family.

5-According to the scriptures, if you pray to seven Thursday regular banana tree then your all worship wishes come true.

6- It is astrologically believed that if a person has manglik dosh, marrying a Banana Tree removes the dosh and a person can marry a non-manglik person.

7-Banana tree signifies good health and mental peace. Banana tree is considered very sacred and is even worshipped. On Thursdays, people worship banana tree along with praying to Lord Vishnu.

7-LOTUS;--

1-The Lotus is always considered as an evocative (bringing strong images) symbol of beauty, purity and divinity and a highly revered flower by all Hindus.

2-In Hinduism many of the deities are pictured sitting upon a lotus or holding a lotus flower.

3-Rising up pure and unsullied from the depths of the muddy swamp(marsh), the lotus represents the manifestation of God. The pure white lotus flower is the only plant to fruit and flower simultaneously.

4-The flower is a symbol of Goddess Laxmi. One of the incarnations of the Mother-Goddess or Devi and wife of the god Vishnu, Laxmi is the goddess of fortune and prosperity as well as the epitome of feminine beauty. Lakshmi is always portrayed as sitting on a lotus flower which is her traditional symbol. That is why this flower held in high esteem.

5- The Lotus flower has also symbolized spiritual enlightenment.

8-SANDALWOOD TREE (OUTDOOR);-

1-Sandal wood, its paste and oil are important in worship of gods. The Sandal tree is highly regarded in the Vedic texts, and the heartwood is considered to be sacred. It is said that chandana scents the whole of paradise with its fragrance.

2-Sandalwood is considered the epitome of excellence, imparting fragrance even to the axe that cuts it. It is used in sacred ceremonies and to purify holy places.3-Sandal wood is very expensive as it is used to make exquisite handicrafts, and its oil is very fragrant.

3-Sandalwood paste when applied on the forehead, cools the head. The sandalwood is used to make incence sticks. It is very rare to find sandalwood trees and hence there have been so many instances of robbers cutting down trees in the middle of the night, if found in any house compound. If you like this fragrant tree, it is a good idea to try and grow one- but you may need to secure it!

9-COCONUT TREE (OUTDOOR);---

1-In Sanskrit, the name for the coconut palm "Kalpa vriksha", which means "the tree which provides all the necessities of life" or "wish-fulfilling tree".

2-The coconut tree is given a special place in most Hindu households and great care is taken to nature the tree. In the southern part of India, it is a must for every household to plant coconut trees. The coconut is used for all religious purposes.

3-The whole pot filled with water, mango leaves and coconut, also known as "Purnakumbha" is a symbol of Goddess Laksmi or Fortune and the coconut represents divine consciousness.

4-To break a coconut in the beginning of any event is considered to be very auspicious. Coconuts are offered in Temples to worship to various Gods and Goddesses. The fruit is also believed to represent Lord Shiva and the three black marks on the coconut shell, symbolizes his eyes.

10-NEEM TREE (OUTDOOR);--

1-The neem tree besides having various medicinal benefits is a highly revered tree among the Hindus because it is a manifestation of "Goddess Durga". That is why the tree is sometimes referred to as Neemari Devi. The Tree is worshiped very intensely.

2- Tamil Ladies, while worshiping Maa kali dress in red, carry branches of the Neem tree, and dance in public places swishing the branches as an act of exorcism and to purify the world.

3-The presence of Neem tree in a house generates positivity and Neem also has medicinal properties. It is considered auspicious as per Vastu. Neem tree should be placed in the Vayavya Kon (Northwest) corner.
