WHAT IS THE HIDDEN MYSTERY OF SATYAM, SHIVAM ,SUNDARAM?

SATYAM SHIVAM SUNDARAM is the way Hindus describe Lord Shiv with respect and devotions. However one must understand the exact and practical meaning of the word or phrase so that life could become more meaningful and enjoyable. While attempting this post, care has been taken to avoid ambiguity, by expressing everything in simple language, without resorting to complicate things by adding Sanskrit Shlokas. As per Hindu belief, the affair of the world is divided into three different parts which are as follows:--- 1. Creation: Since creation on its own is complicated, Lord Brahma provides guidance and overseas creation sitting in Bhramlok. Where this Bhramlok or planet Bhramlok is, no one knows. But it is certainly not on this earth. Creation as such cannot be scientifically described as exclusive earth related exercise; there are parameters outside earth which also influence this. 2. Taking care of the creation: Paalankarta in Sanskrit; Lord Vishnu takes care of the creation. His abode is Vishnulok, or Vaikunth, as some will say, which once again is not on this earth. As such there are parameters outside earth which influence this. 3. Destruction: Sanghaarkarta in Sanskrit; Lord Shiv takes responsibility of this. His abode is Himalayas. As such all parameters for destruction are Earth-centric, and related to earth. As such Bhrama, Vishnu, Mahesh (Shiv), are in charge of creation, taking care of creation, and destruction respectively.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF SATYAM?--- Having understood the fine distinction related to above three assignments, we can now proceed to the first word “Satyam” --- 1-Satyam means the truth -- not what you think about it, but what it is; not your idea about it, but its reality. To know this truth you have to be utterly absent. Your very presence will distort the vision, because your presence means the presence of your mind, your prejudices, your conditionings. 2-This seeing of existence is the first experience of the mystic contained in the word satyam. Satyam means the truth -- not any conception about it, but truth itself.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF SHIVAM ?--- 1-The second word, shivam, means virtue -- all that is good, all that is valuable, all that is the most precious in you, the ultimate good. The man who comes to experience the truth starts living the truth immediately. There is no other alternative.

2-His living the truth is shivam. Shivam is the action of truth; truth itself is the center of the cyclone. But if you experience the truth, the cyclone around you becomes shivam. It becomes pure godliness.

WHAT IS THE MEANING OF SUNDRAM ?--- 1-A man of truth is the only proof that the world is divine. No argument can prove that the world is divine. Sundram means beauty. 2-So this is the mystic trinity: satyam, the truth; shivam, the good, the divine; and sundram, the beauty. 3-You have seen the beauty of the flowers, you have seen the beauty of the stars, you have seen the beauty of a bird on the wing, you have seen beauties upon beauties of sunsets and sunrises. 4-But the greatest beauty is to see the totality, the intensity of the mystic. That is the greatest flowering in existence of consciousness itself. It is available only to those who are humble enough to receive it .

WHAT IS THE DECODATION OF SATYAM SHIVAM SUNDARAM?---

14 FACTS----- 1-SATYAM, as the word is very simple, means pertaining to TRUTH, i.e. Truth. But everything that is real and can be scientifically described is truth. But here we need not go that far. When we say Lord Shiv is Satyam, we mean that Shiv is the real truth.

2-His presence is physical. He is within you and you are within HIM. He is the reason for your birth; and that is the truth. He is seriously interested in nurturing you and your growth and that is the Truth. Remember that Bhrama and Vishnu can only do things with the support and blessing of Shiv. He is the God who lives in this world and nourishes it. His interest in our well being is Supreme and that is the Truth; that is SATYAM. 3-Growing from an infant to a grown person, one needs the support of one's family, which happens to be one's right but also the external help and support. This is where Shiv becomes SHIVAM, meaning that he ensures that you receive the information and capability required to become an adult.

4-Shivam means to give everything without expecting and asking for anything in return. That is what one's family and society does for the growth of an infant.

5-Remember, Mata Parvati, a princess, or should we say a very rich princess, married Shiv after renouncing everything.SHE KNEW SHE CANNOT COME CLOSER TO SHIV WITHOUT GIVING AWAY EVERYTHING. Shiv gives away everything and in doing so HE does not even own a cottage of his own.

6-Shiv is SHIVAM; the giver of everything. Since you are a part of Shiv and HE is a part of you, you have to ensure that you are also to some extent SHIVAM to harmonize your relation with Him . 7-SUNDRAM, as the word suggests means beautiful. A fully grown up person interacts with the world. His interaction, because of Shiv, gives him the real feeling of how beautiful the world is.

8-Remember Shiv ensures that the world is a proper place to live in. The world is beautiful. But you, a part of Shiv have to show your own commitment that from this beautiful world you will not take anything that will spoil its beauty, or deplete it in such a way that, like everything else, it too, moves towards destruction.

9-Sundaram requires some commitment from your side. You have been provided with a beautiful world. Make it more beautiful. And that ultimately is the only aim of ALL religions. You must become SUNDARAM like Shiv. 10-After that, the next important thing comes, which is important to complete the cycle; the destruction or death, and that is the truth OR Satyam, you can say. So the cycle starts all over again.

11-It is the same as Sat(real, eternal)Chid ( light of consciousness) Anandam (bliss).The same as--

Asti (is) BhAti(is effulgent) Priyam (is blissful).

Asti= Sat=Satyam,

BhAti=Chit=Shivam,

Priyam=Anandam=Sundaram

12-The nature of the Self is described as Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram: Truth, Tranquillity and Innocence, and Beauty. Spirituality is a journey from the outer world of names and forms to the subtle world of energies, to the innermost core of our being, the Self.

13-Satyam or Truth is multidimensional, unchanging in time and space. It is the substratum, the basis of entire creation. Shivam is the embodiment of calmness and tranquillity, innocence and benevolence.

14-Shiva is always mentioned along with Shakti. Shakti is the primordial energy responsible for entire creation. Energy is the feminine aspect and is addressed as Mother Divine, the Devi. Like the sea and the waves, though seemingly separate, they are essentially the same. Like the light and the lamp, dancer and the dance, Shiva and Shakti, the creation and the creative impulse are inseparable.

1-Sundaram is beauty. We move from recognising beauty outside to beauty within. Adi Shankaracharya in his composition Saundarya Lahiri (Waves of Beauty), glorifies the incomparable beauty of the Divine Mother. 2-Here he speaks of Apangat or Kama, the god of love, an archer with a bow and five flower arrows. When Apangat hits you with his arrow of flowers, a wave of beauty is created inside you.The five flowers represent the five senses through which you experience something that is beyond the senses. You experience a wave of beauty rising deep inside you; you have dissolved into the formless.

3-Rather, you are formless. You have come back to your nature.When you look at beautiful scenery, your eyes shut and you sink into that ocean of beauty. When you smell a fragrant flower, the flower remains outside, the fragrance disappears in a void, and you drop into being. That is beauty.

4-When you hear beautiful music, you become fully immersed in it and you no longer know what is being played. You are lost in the formless divinity within.In this way, Adi Shankara has described the beautiful journey from the gross to the subtle, the outer to the inner, the form to the formless, and the limited to the infinite, non-dual consciousness.

5-Established in such a state, you start appreciating everything from a thorn to a snail and a sea urchin(a marine). Dispassion to one's Self, dedication to society and devotion to God is the secret of undying beauty. Without dispassion, beauty is short-lived.Possessiveness turns beauty into a mirage.

6-Devotion and wonderment is simply appreciating beauty without possessiveness. You see a beautiful painting and you want to own it, you want to take it home with you, but then you hang it on your wall and after a while you don't even look at it.

7-Adi Shankaracharya was an embodiment of dispassion. He could fully cognise and experience beauty in entire creation.Beauty creates a thrill; it wakes up the sleeping consciousness. Beauty can also bring ecstasy and draw you into deep meditation. Meditation is complete relaxation, like a cool shower for the mind. It is the act of getting in touch with your own divinity, getting back to your nature.

8-Your nature is truth, innocence and beauty.To be able to perceive truth or beauty in creation, calmness is essential. An agitated mind can neither see the truth nor appreciate beauty. That's why Satyam, Shivam and Sundaram always go together. The whole of Creation is nothing but 'Waves of Beauty'.

SHIVAM ; TRUTH, I.E. SATYAM......
