12 FACTS;- 1-“OM” is a mantric word thought to be a complete expression of Brahman and interpreted as having three sounds representing Brahma or creation, Vishnu or preservation, and Shiva or destruction, or as consisting of the same three sounds, representing waking, dreams, and deep sleep, along with the following silence, which is fulfillment. 2-Experts say these syllables can represent a slew (turn or slide) trios(a set or group of three people), including: the heavens, earth, and the underworld; the Hindu gods Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva (creator god, sustainer god, and destroyer god); and the waking, dreaming, and dreamless states — “to represent all of consciousness,” 3-The sound appears to have first cropped up in the Upanishads, a collection of sacred texts that inform Hinduism. The Mandukya Upanishad, which is entirely devoted to om, begins like this: “Om is the imperishable word. Om is the universe, and this is the exposition of om. The past, the present, and the future, all that was, all that is, all that will be is om. Likewise, all else that may exist beyond the bounds of time, that too is om.” That pretty much covers it; om is big indeed . 4-As the Mandukya Upanishad tells us the perfect state or super conscious state and all that precedes it are a part of Om. The sound can also be displayed in its more complete form of Aum. When written this way it appears as if the sound has three parts. In actuality it has four;---- 4-1-The A (aahhh) sound represents the creation aspect of the universe and all of the gross objects within it. Ahh is the beginning of all sounds. This is the most common letter that starts alphabets. It connects us to our sense of self, the ego. With this syllable you experience the existence of the world through the activity of the senses. The first sound embodies “Sat”, the sound that starts to bring you back to unity, to the truth of your existence. - -------- During Meditation ,When you chant this sound notice that it is produced in the throat and back of the mouth where the tongue is rooted and resonates/vibrates in the lower abdomen. -------------------------------------------------- 4-2-The U (oooh) sound signifies the maintaining energy of the universe and the subtle impressions of the mind. It connects us to an inner sense of something greater than that which we can see and feel with our senses. Oooh lets in lightness, clarity, balance and goodness. The sound denotes “Chit”, an illumination of knowing, pure wisdom.- -------- During Meditation ,When you chant this letter the sound moves forward between the tongue and the palate up to the lips and vibrates in the solar plexus. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 4-3-The M (mmmm) sound characterizes the transformative energy of the universe and the thoughts and beliefs of your being. This sound unites you to the awareness of oneness. It allows you to slow down in order to feel the connectedness of all that is.The sound symbolizes “Ananda”, to be at one with bliss everywhere with all things. -------------- During Meditation , The sound “mmmm” is produced by closing the lips and it vibrates; heart & the crown of the head. -------------------------------------- 4-4-The fourth sound is silence or anagata. It is the vibration which is beyond verbal pronunciation. It is pure consciousness of the Self or the Atman. The unity of Sat Chit Ananda (I exist, I know, I am blissful) is experienced here. 5-As you can see the experience of Om is multifaceted. It truly is an experience of all in everything. It is said that the sound of Aum includes the entire process of sound and all other sounds are included within it. Therefore, Om is called the seed sound (bija), the original sound from which all other sounds and worlds come from. This is why Om is said to represent God, Bhraman, Source, Universal Consciousness. 6-When chanting Om aloud, the sound will naturally evolve through the tree phases corresponding tot the three letters A-U-M. Like the experience of Om as a sense of completeness and pure consciousness, the three syllables are not distinct or separate phases, but a continuous motion of the body, breath and awareness.Because it has the power to create everything. 7-Now, the true power of Om lies in the experience of Om. Reading this can help the mind understand but it cannot give you the experience. Chant this, by yourself, with your friends, in your community. Allow the experience of all the words above to soak into your being. Feel the power each syllable has as the sound vibrations move from the low abdomen, up through the solar plexus and chest all the way to the tip top of the head. Let the vibrations clear and cleanse your energy system and chakras. Find wholeness and healing in this easy to remember mantra. 8-For starters, it’s all about sacred threes. Most faiths have trinities in their roots and Hinduism, where om was born, is no different. Even though it’s usually pronounced seamlessly so it rhymes with “home”. 9-Om is also considered the mother of the bija, or “seed” mantras — short, potent sounds that correlate to each chakra and fuel longer chants (like, say, Om Namah Shivaya). Depending on who you talk to, it relates to either the third eye or the crown chakra, connecting us to the Divine. No wonder its core to some Buddhist systems and other Indian religions. Some say it’s even among the sounds recorded in deep space — on NASA’s website, Earth itself sounds a bit om-y. 10-Some scholars say that the shape of the visual Om symbol embodies each of its syllables — the three is the Sanskrit letter for “ahh,” that same three with the mini S on it is “oooh,” and the bindhi and half-moon at the top are the “mmm.” Some say the symbol is connected to Ganesh, the Hindu half-elephant god who removes obstacles, because if you squint (a quick or casual look), you can see his rotund curves and graceful trunk represented. 11-Many layers of meaning are there for the delving, yet om has endured in popularity simply because of its vibration — how we feel when we chant it. “The sound itself seems to calm the nervous system,” It also unites us as a group. When we sound om together, we’re aligning body/mind/spirit; we’re aligning with one another; we’re aligning with the universe because it’s the sound of the universe and we’re referencing something real .if you simply go through life chanting om, the very air around you will sparkle. 12-Chanting om also creates a link with those who have practiced before us. It’s a sound that validates oneness and harmony .We chant it because yogis have for thousands of years. And when we chant it, we’re connecting with those yogis in a ritual way, and drawing upon the support of the practices they’ve been doing for a long, long time.” You've chanted OM, hundreds maybe thousands of times, and the symbol is, well, everywhere. But have you ever wondered, what it is about OM, that makes yogi's wholeheartedly chant its glory and live in its symbolic presence? Please read 10 facts;--
10 FACTS TO DEEPEN OUR KNOWLEDGE ABOUT 'AUM';-- 1. The sound of OM encompasses all words, all sounds in human language OM is a matrix of all sounds, when in its diversified form gives rise to all words used in language. Linguistically, all audible sounds are produced in the space within the mouth beginning at the root of the tongue and ending at the lips. The throat sound is A, and M is the lip sound; and the sound U represents the rolling forward of speech articulation which starts at the root of the tongue, continuing until it ends in the lips. To pronounce OM correctly, remember, the sound vibration is pronounced “oom” as in home. 2. AUM &OM...... In Sanskrit, the sound “O” is a diphthong spelled “AU”. A diphthong is the blending of two vowel sounds where both are normally heard and make a gliding sound. As a result, the difference between OM and AUM is simply one of transliteration. 3. AUM represents the 3 Fold Division of Time A – is the waking state U – is the dream state M – is the state of deep sleep At the end of AUM is a pause, a silence. This represents the state known as Turiya, or Infinite Consciousness 4. The visual symbol represents the meaning of AUM------ The symbol OM visually consists of three curves, one semicircle, and a dot. The large bottom curve symbolizes the waking state, A. The middle curve signifies the dream state, U. The upper curve denotes the state of deep sleep, M. The dot signifies the fourth state of consciousness, Turiya. The semi circle at the top represents Maya and separates the dot from the other three curves. It signals to us that it is the illusion of Maya that is an obstacle to realization of the Highest. 5. OM is associated with Ganesha------- The physical form of Lord Ganesha is said to be that of OM. The upper curve, of OM, is identified with the head or the face of Ganesh. The Lower curve his belly. The twisted curve, on the right side of OM is the trunk. 6-Om is called the sound of one hand clapping. Om is the eternal sound; Om is the sound which is there in the universe all the time. All the saints in the past, when they went deep into meditation, they just heard Om. So, Om means many things. It means love, eternity, purity, peace. 7-Om is made up of several dhatus: ah-ooh-ma. Just ‘ah’ has 19 meanings. You can derive some several thousand meanings from Om. All those meanings are attributed to Om''. So Om'' is the seed of the whole creation; Om is the sound of creation. In Bible too, it is said, ‘In the beginning there was a word and the word was with God and the word was God’. That is Om. There they don’t say which word; the word is Om. 8-It is in all the religions in some or the other form. That is the true name, ‘Ek Omkar Sat Naam’. Om means truth. It is the name of the infinity or the Divinity. It means love. It is the origin of the universe. There is a beautiful verse in the Guru Granth Sahib, which begins with ‘Ek Omkar Sat Naam, Karta Purakh’ – From Om everything has come, in Om everything dwells, and into Om everything will dissolve; both matter and consciousness. 9-The best thing is that it is a complete vibration. ‘Ah’ - affects the lower part of the body, ‘Ooh’ - affects the middle part, ‘Mm’ - affects the upper part. The total prana is represented by one syllable Om. Before birth, we were part of that sound and after death we will merge with that sound; the sound of the spirit. 10- IF WE TAKE EXAMPLE OF BODY ;THEN OM IS THE FACE,WHILE OTHER BEEJS REPRESENTS THE OTHER PARTS OF THE BODY.SO TO MAKE ACQUAINTANCE;WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT ?YOU HAVE TO TAKE DECISION .... So, you can say many things about Om; there is a whole Upanishad, the Mandukya Upanishad, which is all about Om. WHY DON'T WE TAKE ONLY OM'' AS A MANTRA?-- Now, why don’t we take only Om as a mantra? Why do we need any other mantra to chant during meditation? Before meditation, you chant Om and create the vibration, but for meditation you need different mantras. Just Om is not used; Hari Om or Om Namah Shivaya, or something else is used along with Om. 1-Only recluses, those who want to do nothing with the world, or are very old are allowed to do chant Om. 2-Those who don’t have anything to do with the world only they are allowed to do just Om. 3-ACTUALLY,,, it is not advisable to those who have Worldy /Maayic DESIRES..when your Purusharths are fulfilled & you are ready for SELF -REALIZATION,,,THEN OM,,OM OM. 4-So ,we should know the definition of AUM;i.eTHE SECRET PROCEDURE OF THE GETTING SIDDHI OVER 'AUM ?---NEXT POST ......SHIVOHAM....
