THE ROLE OF FIVE ELEMENTS;-

05 FACTS;-

1-Panchtattva or the Five Elements, based on which the Shastras say that this World has been created; the entire Ayurved, Yog, all the Tantras, Puja or Worship, all of these are based on the Panchtattva or the Five Elements.

2-In the Panchtattva, 4 Principal Directions, in the North, Blue colour, in the East, Green colour, in the South, Red, and a combination of White & Blue in the West direction; in all these 4 Principal Directions, when you sense using the methods of Dhyan or Meditation, Dodging or by any other ways or means, you feel the presence of these Elements in different Directions.

3-In the North, Water element; in the East, Air element; in the South, Fire element; in the West, Space element; and in the Centre, as well as in the Corners, the Earth element. When we go into further detailing, then in the North-East, we come across Minor Earth, means the Diluted Version of Earth.

4-In the South-West, there is more solid version of the Earth. In the North-West and the South-East zones, you find a Balanced Version of the Earth, and in the Centre, it’s the total Earth element. There are in total, Five Elements.

5-They are: Water, on the top or in the North, then in the right side if we move in a clockwise direction, Air in the East direction, then Fire in the South, then in the South-West, there is the Major Earth, then Space, then Water.

CHART OF DIRECTION ,COLOUR & ELEMENT

WHAT IS THE CYCLE OF CREATION(BRAHMAN)?

The Productive cycle;-

06 FACTS;-

1-One of the basic principles of Mahavastu, the principle of five elements, which are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. These elements interact between

themselves in certain ways, generally defined as the Productive and Destructive cycles.

Water nurtures -> Wood nurtures -> Fire nurtures -> Earth nurtures -> Metal nurtures -> Water.

2-You will use the Productive, or Creative, cycle when you need to strengthen a particular element. For example;-

let’s say, you need to strengthen the Wood element in a specific area. Besides the obvious step of bringing more Wood energy (with plants, wood décor items, colors green and brown, etc),

3-you will also focus on bringing more of the Water element because it nourishes the Wood. You can do that with an actual water feature such as an aquarium or a

fountain, with images of water, mirrors, as well as décor(Decoration) elements in deep blue or black colors in fluid shapes.

4-We must learn to read all the things from the viewpoint of five elements...

CLARITY MEANS SPACE ELEMENT FOR EXAMPLE DIAMOND & CRYSTAL

&CLOUDED MEANS EARTH ELEMENT.

5-THE CYCLE IS...

A-WATER PRODUCES AIR / WOOD(BOTH ARE SYNONYM)WATER IS THE FATHER OF VANASPATI-

B-AIR /WOOD PRODUCES FIRE

C-FIRE PRODUCES EARTH (BECAUSE ASHES IS LEFT WHICH PRODUCES METAL)

D-EARTH PRODUCES METAL/SPACE (SPACE & METAL SYNONYM )

E-SPACE PRODUCES WATER AGAIN.

6-IN NUTSHELL;-

Water generates wood. Rain nourishes a tree.

Wood generates fire. Burning wood generates fire.

Fire generates earth. Ash is created from the fire.

Earth generates metal. Metal is mined from the earth.

Metal generates water. Water condenses on metal.

WHAT IS CYCLE OF CONTROL?

The Destructive cycle

Water weakens -> Fire weakens –> Metal weakens -> Wood weakens –> Earth weakens –> Water

04 FACTS;-

1-You will use the Destructive Cycle when you need to weaken a particular element in your home or office. For example;-

If the Water element in a specific area is too strong and you cannot remove the decor element that brings the Water energy - such as mirrored closet doors in the West area - then you need to weaken the Water element. In order to do that, you will bring the Earth element to put down/absorb the excess Water energy.

2-Decor-wise, you can do any (or all!) of the following:-

Bring several big to medium-size earthenware vases, Have a beige rug (mat) with a predominantly square pattern, Paint the walls in a light yellow or beige color and/or bring a strong earth element presence. Now that you understand the basics of the productive and destructive cycles of the five elements.

3-IN NUTSHELL;-

Water regulates fire. Fire is extinguished by Water.

Wood regulates earth. Earth restrained or broken by Wood.

Fire regulates metal. Metal is melted and forged by Fire.

Earth regulates water. Water is dammed and absorbed by Earth.

Metal regulates wood. Wood is cut or displaced by Metal.

4-NOTE;-

1-CYCLE OF CONTROL(DESTROY) means .MAHARUDRA ...CYCLE OF CREATION & CYCLE OF CONTROL CIRCULATING AT THE SAME TIME, I.E.ITS ONE PHENOMENON.

2-IMBALANCE IS THE CAUSE OF DESTRUCTION.CYCLE OF BALANCE IS CALLED MAHAVISHNU .

THE ELEMENT EXPRESSED IN SHAPES;-

AIR/WOOD: Rectangular

FIRE: Triangular

EARTH: Square

SPACE/METAL: Round

WATER: Wavy

WHAT ARE THE PROPERITIES OF ELEMENT ?

THE PROPERITIES OF ELEMENT;-

Mahavastu, uses what is known as the 5 elements. Each element is one aspect of nature that has a compass direction and energy associated with it. When used properly in its direction, the element helps manifest positiveEnergy( Qi )in that direction. The same elements have distinct characteristics that pertain to each one of them specifically. Here is a look at each of the 5 elements and their distinct characteristics.

1-FIRE;

02 FACTS;-

1-Fire is a considered a forceful energy. It represents the idea of expansion and transformation. If we think of a fire burning it grows and spreads out. Fire is considered a masculine or Yang energy. The direction it governs is South. The colour associated with Fire is Red. Red to oranges to pinks and even some purple are all associated with the energy of Fire.

2-Fire’s shapes are triangular shapes like pyramids, triangles, diamonds and Sun bursts. Like Fire spreading quickly; these shapes send energy in all directions fast. This coincides with idea that Fire creates movement and change quickly. So consider Fire an element to use when you want things done in a fast or quick manner.

2-EARTH;-

02 FACTS;-

1-When we think of Earth we think of the dirt under one’s feet or on the ground. So with this in mind Earth is a grounding and supporting energy. The direction for Earth is East. If one was to use the map of the different elements and directions Earth is in the center of it.

2-The colours associated with Earth are Yellows to muted colour to earth tones. The colours associated with earth slow energy down. It is the Earth element in one’s home that gives it the stability and the nurturing factor that homes need. It makes family members feel secure. The shapes associated with Earth are rectangles and squares. These type of shapes are considered grounding.

3-AIR/WOOD;-GROWTH ;-

02 FACTS;-

Wood is the element of personal growth. Plants and trees are part of the Wood element. Since plants grow vertically the type of energy associated with Wood is upward movement. The main colors associated with Wood are all shades of greens and a little purple for living in abundance. Wood and its colors encompass energy that is both energizing and clear. Since it has vertical upward energy the shapes associated with Wood are columns and cylinders. Because wood brings oxygen to an environment Wood is used for “Feng Shui cures” concerning health in one’s home as well as also representing prosperity.

4-WATER;-FLOW & CLEANING;-

02 FACTS;-

1-Water is the element of releasing and renewing. Because it flows it is also associated with prosperity. The colours associated with Water are blues and black. Water also encourages wisdom. Flowing shapes are associated with the water element.

2-Shapes that are still and hold water are also considered a Water element as in the womb. When Water flows freely it represents abundance. Water is a refreshing element . It is used in the home to refresh, purify and increase abundance. Its direction is North.

5-SPACE/AIR;-

02 FACTS;-

1-Metal is the element associated with mental strength. The colors associated with Metal are white, silver, grey and sometimes gold. This element is also associated with the colours of the rainbow. The rainbow is associated with healing and creativity.

2-The circle which is Metals shape represents intelligence. The energy associated with circles is constant motion moving outward as it expands. We tend to think of Metal as hard, cold and unfeeling but it actually stimulates energy for efficiency, clarity of mind and purpose. It helps everyone in a home to unite for a common goal, so everyone is on the same page so to speak. The direction for Metal is West.

PRACTICE ONE ;-

When you start applying the theory of five elements, you might be confused as to the element representation of a specific piece of furniture or a decor item. In between colour, shape and material, how would you define the element of a specific object?

TOPIC;-

Example of a fireplace in the East area;-

09 FACTS;-

1-The fireplace, being a Fire element item, is too strong for the Wood because Fire burns the Wood, which makes the fireplace an undesirable design feature in the East. East area is the area connected to health & family relationships. It does mean, though, is that there is a potential for burnout and stress for people living in this house.

2-Let's see how we can remedy the situation by using the newly acquired knowledge about the two main cycles of elements to strengthen .you know that the East area is governed by the Wood element.

It is important to have a strong and vibrant Wood element in order to bring the desired quality of energy to a home. When the Wood element is weakened, or destroyed by a strong Fire in the East, the quality of energy needed to maintain good health for people living in this home is weak.

3-As a fireplace is not easily removed or repositioned, what type of cures can you apply? This is where the knowledge about the two main cycles of the five elements is very helpful.

4-There are two main cycles of interaction between the five elements: Productive (cycle of creation) and Destructive (cycle of destruction.)The Wood element

weaken(destroy) the Fire element in the East area of a home .

5-We need to bring the Water element as Water nurtures the Wood and at the same time puts down the Fire. You can hang a big mirror above the fireplace, which will bring the desired energy of the Water element.

6-Choose a round or oval shape mirror (Metal element shape), as Metal nurtures Water, or go for a frame in a blue or black color (these are the colors of the needed Water element.)

7-You can also choose to bring the Water element with strong water energy art, an actual water feature or paint the East wall in a water element color. The optimum solutions are always the ones that work best with your decor and complement it, rather than detract from it.

8-The best way to bring elements into your home is in their natural state. For example, if you need more Wood, a lush green plant would be the best cure. Second best would be a piece of wood furniture or artwork with lush green colors.

9-The more you play with the five elements theory and see how it applies to each area of your home, the sooner you will know how to decorate your house in a way that nurtures and supports the health and well-being of your loved ones...-

PRACTICE TWO ;-

TOPIC;-

Let's take the example of a coffee table of blue color, square shape, made from wood. Blue being the colour of the water element, is this table bringing the water element into your home or is it bringing the wood element (as the table is made from wood)? To make it more complicated, the shape of the table is square, which is the earth element.

So which one of the three elements does the table actually represent?

03 FACTS;-

1-Generally, when you have difficulty defining the element of a specific decor item, the colour of the item will be used as the first criteria. Second comes the shape, and then the material from which the item is made.

2-Of course, when the element is obvious, such as a metal staircase (metal element) or a plant (wood element), there is no guesswork .

3-In most cases, though, you will see that each decor item brings two or more elements, and in time you will find it easier to sense, or understand, the element expression of various items in your home.

HOW TO STRENGTHEN & BALANCE THE ENERGY OF FIVE ELEMENTS?

07 FACTS;-

1-The practice of managing energy flow through the careful arrangement and orientation of physical spaces, the concept of five essential elements is crucial. Each of the five elements—fire,space/ metal, air/wood, earth, and water—all have specific manifestations in several physical categories. Along with colour and the productive/destructive cycle, shape manifests itself as an expression in the five elements in very important ways .

2-Along with colour, you can also use shape to manage the presence of each of the five elements into your spaces. This can make Mahavastu decorating an easy, subtle, but very powerful tool.

3-Balancing with the 5 Mahavastu elements is a bit of an art, you have to experiment and play until you get to a place where you easily understand the language, or the feeling or a specific object, as well as how it fits into the bigger picture.

4-Once you know how to balance the five elements in your home by using simple decor items, as well as various ures, a harmonious home is truly yours to enjoy .

5-The easiest way to get your life moving by using Mahavastu is to bring the energy of specific colours in order to achieve the desired results. Colour is very powerful, as it is an expression of light, and many, way too many homes and offices are starved for light. So, bring on vibrant light energy with beautiful colours.

6-This is not hard, as we all have an intuitive knowing, an immediate response to any quality of energy; it is only a matter of experimenting and starting to trust your inner voice. Everything speaks to you all the time, you just have to allow yourself to listen.

7-Here is the color correspondence of each of the five elements:

Wood: Green, Brown

Fire: Red, Strong Yellow, Orange, Purple, Pink

Earth: Light Yellow, Sandy/Earthy, Light Brown

Metal: White, Gray

Water: Blue, Black
